How To Take Your Concrete Driveway From Blah and Boring to Fabulous!

In years past a piece of property came up for sale around the corner from our house and my husband scooped it up.  We needed a project.  So, we went all in and built a spec house, what an adventure.

Today, I'm sharing with you the driveway and back patio pours.  We stamped the entire drive with a slate texture and then added some brick accents.  A great way to add visual interest and break up such a large expanse of concrete.

My love affair with concrete prompted me to add a new postcard to my Cheat Sheet Postcard Series, a collection of postcards to collect and reference on a variety of topics.   For your free Subscription to the series, click here:  10 Ways to Decorate Your Home with Concrete.

It's pour day, all framed up, mesh is in place and ready to go.

My husband's brother has a concrete company out of Washington, IL called Rudy's Concrete, he sent a crew down to help us out on such a large pour.

That's my husband and his brother, the dust is releasing agent which keeps the stamps from sticking and is also the colorant.

Here they've stamped some of the larger portion of the pad and are adding the brick border.

They did the hard work, I came back later, swept up all the leftover powder, power-washed, let it dry and got it sealed.

Love how it turned out.  We also added a small back patio with similar colors and the same stamp texture, no brick this time.

One of my boys doesn't mind hard physical labor, he even worked for his uncle while going to community college for two years.  The other, well, let's just say he won't have any problem with a desk job.

Concrete is really making a name for itself it so many varying applications these days.  Some great furniture, vertical applications and lighting to name a few.  For a free subscription to my Cheat Sheet Postcard Series, a collection of quick reference postcards dealing with a variety of topics, click here: 10 Ways to Decorate Your Home with Concrete.

  1. Wow, that is incredible how an ordinary concrete driveway can be transformed into something so awesome looking! I would love to look into getting stamped concrete in my home. It looks like expensive stone from the pictures!
