How To Easily Fix The Hole In A Furniture Top With BarnWood

I bought this adorable desk at an estate sale for next to nothing. I have never seen a desk quite like it.  From the bottom where it rests on the floor to the way the handles line up down the front, I was in love from the moment I saw it and had to have it.

One of my favorite finds are furniture pieces that have great bones but need a little personalization and TLC.

This piece had really only one problem, there's quite a hole in the top of the desk,  a "make it work" moment.

My solution, I had some barn wood laying around so I cut it to fit and voila'.... a new, rustic top!

I also took this opportunity to personalize it.  I carved a heart with an arrow thru it with M+J inside.  It'll be barely visible but I'll always know it's there.

I also wanted the top black so I added a layer of paint and then lightly sanded it, this is my final result.  The top and drawers are drying in the garage.  Hopefully I'll get them put in place tomorrow.

Here it is put in place in the bedroom.  Now to find me a great chair.  There are so many great furniture pieces out there heading to the dump, when all they really need is a little love and TLC.
