Building The Chirping Frog- Part 9

Our newest adventure is moving right along, before you know it we'll be opening The Chirping Frog, an antique, collectibles, vintage, home decor, furniture, artisan wares and more shopping mall.  I am also planning to host classes in a variety of fun topics; such as mosaic, hypertufa, jewelry making, paper arts, etc.  Any artists out there looking to teach a class?  I am so excited and a little terrified all at the same time.  Here are some links if you're interested in following our progress:
Rough-ins are done and the floor is ready to pour.  What a week its been.

We also got the cap for the bathroom framed up.  That was a rough day, it was just my husband and I and those pieces of wood are HEAVY!

These are the connectors that hold the formwork together for a wall pour.  We left a row in and I'm going to use them to hang stuff in the bathrooms.  Not sure exactly how yet but I'm sure I'll figure something out.

We used the 2x4 to help me hold the board up there while hubby put enough tap-cons in to hold it up and then added more every 8" or so.  That's a lot of tap-cons.  He did the math, each one needs to hold roughly 100 lbs.

Added a second board that got screwed in so that the 2x's on top couldn't wiggle there way off the edge.  He added the small pieces of 2x4 to help hold it up there because I'm about useless with these heavy boards.

He added some 2x4's underneath going each direction to keep anything from twisting when weight gets added and a layer of plywood up top.

We worked up here after dark two nights (with our little headlamps on) and I never got a picture of the mass of rebar and H/C block-outs, vents and electrical, oops.  The forming on the face wall also got put back up.

This is the view as I'm driving to the site the morning of the pour.  Not sure I've ever seen a pump truck before.  Wow!

First truck arrived at 8:00am with multiple trucks lined up waiting their turn.

Jason's brother and a buddy, Rudy, own a Concrete Business in Washington, Illinois called Rudy's Concrete.  They brought a crew up here for the pour and a couple of the guys Jason works with helped out too.

The pump truck helped immensely and so did this laser screed.  What a neat machine.  I was shocked at how easy it made the work (I thought they'd be dragging concrete all afternoon).  Our concrete total was somewhere around 175 yards, started at 8 and completely down by 11.  That's fast!

They started the pour at the roof for the bathroom, thank goodness it held.  One of the worries of the day we could check off our list.  Jason, Jeff and Bill took the risk and did the work up top.  Billy added a cute reminder of their efforts today.

Rudy is on one and Jeff (another of Jason's brothers) is on the other.  Look how shiny the far section of the floor looks, wow!

They got done with the burnishing by 5 and began marking for cuts.

Three saws going took them till about 7:15pm to get it done.  What a day!

What's next..... framing!  Can't wait to see the building come together.  Jason and I will be working on cleaning up the site and grading while framing is going on.  Still plenty of work to do.

A huge Thank-You to Bill, Rudy and the entire crew for helping us out today (Chad, Lee and Matt too).  We couldn't have done it without ya and it looks fabulous!
